BRONZE… of life and memory

BRONZE… of life and memory

The fusion of bronze is an antique technique and is in itself a metamorphosis, a transformation. At extremely high temperatures the different properties of three metals are fused, creating a finer, much stronger bond. In its liquid state, the metal is poured into very fine moulds inside of which the original matrix dissolves leaving its impression behind. The metal hardens as it cools. The moulds used by Barbara Abaterusso are of lace and precious antique fabrics that dissolve naturally. Bronze becomes the new genesis, new life. The new-life bronze laceworks become lamps that, with light shining through the myriad apertures, create a magical atmosphere packed with memories. These laceworks can also become pieces of furniture, screens and doors, and a priceless collection of highly elaborate jewellery.
